President Roh Moo-hyun on Thursday congratulated the official launch of terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting in a video message sent to a KBS ceremony.
Roh urged the nation to grab world attention through advanced technology and service and continue its IT success also in the ubiquitous industry.
He said DMB is a next-generation growth engine with 12 trillion won expected in economic effects over the next five years, and that it will also boost the digital content sector.
With Europe recently adopting DMB as its standard and more countries expected to follow, the president said the country should fully utilize the momentum and opportunity.
DMB allows high quality, real-time video and audio on handheld devices from seven TV channels, 13 radio stations and eight data sources.
The data sources will provide provide information on traffic, travel, weather, stocks, concerts and education.
Laptop computers, digital cameras and PDAs can also received DMB broadcast.
