'Controversy Not to Affect Stem Cell Research'

Experts say the controversy over egg donations in stem cell research is unlikely to deal a long-term blow to potential collaboration between Hwang Woo-suk and overseas institutes.

U.S. neuroscientist Evan Snyder said he is reconsidering the opening of a research center in La Jolla, California, backed by the World Stem Cell Hub, adding he has not made a definite decision.

Dr. Robin Lovell-Badge at the Institute for Medical Research in Britain said the ethical crisis could slightly slow down the propagation of Hwang's groundbreaking technology, but did not expect serious damage to collaboration.

Dr. Stephen Minger of the Stem Cell Laboratory at King's College in London said that even though what happened in South Korea is troubling, he does not expect a negative impact on stem cell research.
