Stem cell pioneer Hwang Woo-suk has asked police to temporarily stop providing special security.

The National Police Agency on Tuesday said Hwang wanted to remain alone after he admitted to ethical lapses in his research last week, but that guards will escort him on long trips.

Security will remain around the clock around Hwang's home and lab.
