Enigmatic pitcher Choi Hyang-nam will make his third attempt to play in the U.S. Major League Baseball.

A player for the Kia Tigers last season, Choi on Wednesday signed a minor league contract worth 100,000 dollars with the Cleveland Indians in Seoul to play for their Triple-A team Buffalo Bison.

Once billed as a potential star, the hard-luck Choi has languished in South Korea's league mostly due to an ankle injury.

Making his debut in 1990 with the Haitai Tigers, Choi started only 43 games over seven years, going 1-6 over that stretch.

In late 1996, he was traded to the LG Twins, where he won eight games in 1997, a career-high 12 in 1998, eight again in 1999 and only four in 2000.

An ankle injury in 2001 limited Choi to no wins and one loss. Though rebounding with seven wins in 2002, he missed all of 2003 due to his ankle.

LG in October of that year released him and Kia, which had taken over the Tigers from Haitai, signed him.

Last year, he went 2-1 with an earned run average of 3.57, and attended a pro tryout in Los Angeles but no teams expressed interest.

He returned to Kia this past season and went 2-5 in 12 starts with an ERA of 4.10.
