AFC Snubs Park JS, Lee YP for Top Honor

Park Ji-sung of England's Manchester United and Lee Young-pyo of Tottenham Hotspur are not among the three finalists for Asia Player of the Year.

The Asian Football Confederation's homepage on Monday announced the award candidates as Maksim Shatskikh of Uzbekistan and Hamad Al Montashari and Sami Al Jaber of Saudi Arabia.

Park had a strong case given his key role in PSV Eindhoven's run to the Champions League semifinals earlier this year and eventual transfer to English giant United.

Yonhap News Agency said the AFC might have omitted Park due to his likely inability to attend the awards ceremony on November 30th.

Park and Lee, however, are in the running to join the AFC Men's Team of the Year.

North Korean striker Choe Myong-ho has received a nomination for Asia Youth Player of the Year. South Korean striker Park Chu-young of FC Seoul won last year.

South Korea is also up for awards for top national team and fair play.
