Lotte to Offer Slugger Lee SY 200 Mln Yen

The Chiba Lotte Marines on Tuesday are expected to offer slugger Lee Seung-yeop a one-year deal worth 200 million yen (1.68 million dollars) in their first round of contract talks.

The Japanese daily Sports Hochi said Lee has asked that the team guarantee him a spot on defense before he signs, but is likely to stay with Lotte since no other clubs are interested in him.

Lee has asked for a one-year deal given his desire to the play in the U.S. Major League Baseball after two years. He earned 200 million yen this season plus 40 million yen in performance bonuses.

The slugger led Lotte this season with 30 homers and 82 runs, and set several records in the playoffs as the team won the Japan Series.

Another Japanese daily, Nikkan Sports, said last month that Lotte offered Lee a salary and bonuses worth up to 300 million yen and allowing him to play in the World Baseball Classic in March.
