The research team of stem cell pioneer Hwang Woo-suk will likely announce this week the results of its internal investigation into allegations that researchers had inappropriately obtained human eggs for experiments.

A government official said Sunday that the team would likely release the results of its investigation around Wednesday or Thursday, adding that it would be undesirable to jump to conclusions on the matter before any findings are announced.

The official stressed that the government would respect the team’s results.

Researchers launched the internal investigation shortly after U.S. scientist Gerald Schatten ended his 20-month collaboration with the team, alleging that he had been misled regarding the source of some two-hundred-40 human eggs used in the team's experiments.
