Two of the country's top baseball stars the Samsung Lions' Yang Jun-hyuk and the Chiba Lotte Marines' Lee Seung-yeop will face off Thursday in the opening game of the Asian Series in the Tokyo Dome.
Also called the Konami Cup, the series will feature the league champions of South Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan.
Yang, who recently signed a two-year contract worth 1.5 billion won to stay with Samsung, will play designated hitter and Lee first base for their respective teams.
In Game 3 of the Korean Series, Yang hit a three-run homer to give his team a commanding 3-0 series lead as Samsung swept Doosan in four games.
Lee, who holds the Asian record for most homers in a season with 56, had three homers and set several Japan Series records as Chiba also conducted a sweep of the Hanshin Tigers.
He also posted team highs of 30 home runs and 82 runs scored.
