Samsung Electronics is set to launch a new wireless Internet service in Brazil from the latter half of next year.

The leading electronics firm said Tuesday that it had adopted a strategic alliance with Brazil’s second largest cable operator TVA on supplying the wireless Internet system, dubbed “WiBro,” and related devices.

Samsung Electronics is hoping that the supplying of Wibro will greatly facilitate the use of wireless broadband services in Brazil and have far-reaching effects across the Latin American region.

WiBro is a homegrown technical standard developed using U.S. technology giant Intel Corp.'s WiMax wireless platform.

The system allows wider and faster broadband Internet access through mobile phones and other portable devices at cheaper prices.
