Samsung Develops 1st 70-Nano DRAM

Samsung Electronics has developed what it says is the world's first 70-nanometer DRAM process technology in continuing its dominance in nano-class DRAM engineering.

The company on Thursday said it has produced a 512-megabyte DDR2 (double data rate 2) memory chip employing the cutting-edge technology.

Samsung in 2001 also made the world's first 100-nano mode DRAM, the 90 nano the following year and the 80 nano in 2003.

The 70-nanometer technology can produce a semiconductor with a circuit width of 1/1,400th of a human hair.

From the second half of next year, Samsung will apply the 70-nano process in mass production to lead the global DRAM market.
