The national soccer team on Wednesday benefited from deflected shots in beating Iran in a friendly, 2-0, in coach Dick Advocaat's debut.
At Seoul World Cup Stadium, midfielder Cho Won-hee scored the opening goal in the first minute when his blast ricocheted off two Iranian defenders into the net.
Ranked 26th in the FIFA world rankings, South Korea improved its record to 8-7 against 18th-ranked Iran with three draws.
Defender Kim Jin-kyu scored the final goal in the waning moments of the second half. On a breakaway, striker Ahn Jung-hwan passed the ball just above the penalty box to Kim, whose shot was deflected by an Iranian defender and went over goalie Ebrahim Mirzapour into the net.
Advocaat used the 3-4-3 formation using Park Ji-sung, Park Chu-young and Lee Dong-gook up top, and the team early in the first half pressured Iran in creating a number of scoring chances.
Harmless in the first half, Iran came alive in the second as ace striker Ali Karimi tried in vain to create opportunities.
