Manchester United Coach Alex Ferguson says midfielder Park Ji-sung was the reason why the team did not pursue striker Michael Owen from Real Madrid of Spain.

Ferguson told reporters Sunday that Park represents United's future and that he will become a terrific player.

Reports over the summer said England striker Owen would head to United after his disappointing season with Real, but he ended up with Newcastle United after Manchester showed no interest.
