The Seoul Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday said it will donate ten billion won for research on adult stem cells.

The donation is the largest by a Catholic diocese in the world for adult stem cell research.

A ceremony also launched the Catholic Life Committee of the Catholic Medical Center in Seoul.

The committee will support adult stem cell research as an alternative to that of embryonic stem cells, saying it is opposed to cloning humans and abortion.
