Stem cell research pioneer Hwang Woo-suk is reportedly seeking a partnership with German institutes for research on the therapeutic application of embryonic stem cells.

Speaking at the "Life Science Cluster Meets Asia" event in Berlin, Hwang said efforts are being made for joint research on harnessing stem cell technology to treat currently incurable diseases.

Potential partners from the German side include Bonn University, the Free University of Berlin, and the Max Planck Institute.

The South Korean professor said discussions on the formation of a partnership would begin in earnest once German regulations on embryonic stem cell research are eased.
