Olympic champion Apolo Anton Ohno in October will likely compete in the second meet of the Short-Track Speed Skating World Cup in Seoul.

The daily USA Today on Friday said Ohno has decided to compete in the meet ahead of next year's Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

The Japanese-American won the gold medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2002 Winter Olympics in a highly controversial ruling. South Korean Kim Dong-sung won the race but was disqualified for a blocking move on Ohno.

Enraged South Korean fans sent 16,000 e-mails to the U.S. Olympic Committee, including death threats.

In 2003, Ohno skipped an event in Jeonju, South Jeolla Province, after Web death threats flooded in and a domestic newspaper called him "the most hated athlete in South Korea."
