Wimbledon women's singles champion Venus Williams on Monday beat the world's top-ranked female player Maria Sharapova in an exhibition match at Seoul's Olympic Gymnasium.
The American won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, to improve to 2-2 against the Russian.
Ranked seventh in the world, Williams eliminated Sharapova in the Wimbledon semifinals earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Sharapova will not defend her Korea Open title because of rules that limit play in lower-tier events. The tournament will open on September 26th.
