Several traits of new soccer coach Dick Advocaat could cause worry for the national team.
Critics cite his temper and authoritarian nature, not to mention his tendency to make questionable decisions as shown in last year's European Championships in Portugal.
The Dutch media, who have had contentious relations wtih Advocaat, went ballistic after he surprisingly subbed red-hot striker Arjen Robben in a game against the Czech Republic.
Leading 2-1 with 30 minutes remaining, the Dutch eventually lost, 3-2, as the Czechs capitalized on Robben's absence. Irate Dutch fans later bought a plane ticket to send Advocaat back to the Netherlands.
Though an assistant under famed Dutch coach Rinus Michels, the pioneer of the "total soccer" concept, Advocaat is known for stressing defense and midfield play instead of the Dutch emphasis on attack.
Another concern is Advocaat's conservative style of using veterans rather than experimenting with new but promising talent.
Possibly easing Advocaat's transition to South Korea is his assistant Pim Verbeek, who served under Guus Hiddink in the 2002 World Cup and is thus familiar with the national team and the country.
