Former Germany Coach Berti Vogts says a German coach would greatly help South Korea in next year's World Cup in Germany.

In lobbying for the coaching job, Vogts recently said a German coach would attract much support for the team from the German public.

He said he has yet to receive an offer from the Korea Football Association, but would consider a long-term contract that runs through the end of the 2006 World Cup.

Vogts was a key member of Germany's 1974 World Cup championship team and coached his country in the 1994 and 1998 tournaments.

The 58-year-old most recently resigned as Scotland coach in November last year after a rocky tenure, vowing never to coach again.

But FootballAsia.com said the prospect of leading South Korea, a 2002 World Cup semifinalist, in his motherland holds special appeal for Vogts.
