21 Technologies for Next Decade Named

The government has named 21 promising technologies to lead the nation in the next decade.

President Roh Moo-hyun on Monday chaired a meeting of the state science and technology committee that decided on a list of technologies with bright prospects, including biological self-defense and customized medical technologies to raise the standard of living.

Others on the list were super computing and nano and high-performance material technologies to boost competitiveness and observation and climate change forecast systems to meet global needs.

The committee said that if these technologies are developed and applied over the next ten years, per capita income will reach 35,000 dollars and the economy will emerge as the world's tenth largest.
