Former England soccer coach Bobby Robson is interested in taking over South Korea's national team.

Yonhap News Agency on Thursday said Robson's agent has informed the Korea Football Association that his client is interested in the vacant position.

Jo Bonfrere resigned as coach Tuesday under heavy pressure after a string of disappointing losses.

Robson was coach of the English national team for eight years, reaching the World Cup quarterfinals in 1986 and the semifinals in 1990.

He has also coached PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands, Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto of Portugal, FC Barcelona of Spain and most recently Newcastle of England.

Robson was knighted in 2002.
