Bonfrere: Team Needs More Training Time

Former national soccer coach Jo Bonfrere says the Korea Football Association should guarantee his replacement more training time with the team.
In a news conference after his resignation Tuesday, he blamed too much emphasis on results without adequate training for the team's recent string of disappointing losses.
The Dutchman on Monday evening expressed his resignation to the KFA by phone in a decision accepted by the KFA technical committee the next day.
Bonfrere denied reports that the association pressured him to quit but said he no longer wanted to stay with a team that lacked enough support or training time.
He said he began to think of leaving after the team's last-place finish in the East Asian Football Championship earlier this month, and made his decision after the 1-0 World Cup qualifier loss to Saudi Arabia last week.
The team has qualified for its sixth straight World Cup, a first in Asia, but Bonfrere could not stave off comparisons to the 2002 World Cup squad that made the semifinals.
Bonfrere, however, said the team is on the right track and has improved since he took over.
