The national soccer team on Wednesday suffered another disappointing loss in its final World Cup qualifier to Saudi Arabia, 1-0, at Seoul's Sangam World Cup Stadium.
Mohammed Al Anbar in the fifth minute jumped just outside of the South Korean goal to head in the game's only score past goalie Lee Woon-jae.
Both teams have qualified for next year's World Cup finals in Germany, but the loss dramatically increased the pressure on South Korea Coach Jo Bonfrere.
Bonfrere felt the wrath of angry fans after the team finished last in the East Asia Football Championship earlier this month.
Despite dominating in ball possession and shooting and spending most of the game on the Saudis' side of the field, South Korea blew a variety of scoring chances with several shots going wide.
Saudi Arabia won Group A of the Asian zone with 14 points in six games, with South Korea second with ten points.
Several overseas-based players had returned for the game including Lee Young-pyo of the Netherlands' PSV Eindhoven, Ahn Jung-hwan of France's FC Metz and Cha Du-ri of Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt.
Midfielder Kim Dong-jin was ejected after receiving a second yellow card late in the 75th minute.
The Saudis on March 25th had defeated the national team in their first qualifier, 2-0, at home and are unbeaten in World Cup competition against South Korea since 1989.
