Bonfrere Can Silence Critics with Win Wed.

National soccer coach Jo Bonfrere can further silence calls for his dismissal by beating Saudi Arabia Wednesday in his team's final World Cup qualifier.

Both teams have already qualified for the World Cup and will play for the top spot of Group A in the Asian zone.

Bonfrere has called up several overseas-based players for the game, including Lee Young-pyo of the Netherlands' PSV Eindhoven, Ahn Jung-hwan of France's FC Metz and Cha Du-ri of Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt.

The team on Monday beat North Korea, 3-0, in an inter-Korean friendly game.

Internet polls say up to 80 percent of domestic fans want a coaching change after the team finished last in the East Asian Football Championship earlier this month.

Saudi Arabia on March 25th embarrassed South Korea in their first meeting, 2-0. The loss prompted an avalanche of protest against Bonfrere.

Wednesday's match could also determine the fates of several players who could miss the cut for the World Cup next year, including young strikers Lee Dong-guk and Lee Chun-soo and veteran goalie Lee Woon-jae.

Bonfrere snubbed the two popular strikers from the roster in the North Korea game in favor of Kim Jin-yong at center forward and Park Chu-young and Chung Kyung-ho at the wings. The coach is expected to do the same in Wednesday's game.

"Lion King" Lee Dong-guk failed to score in the East Asian Football Championship and is under fire for not creating scoring chances.

Lee Chun-soo has also failed to impress since his 2002 World Cup campaign, and the heavier goalie Lee could lose his job to 22-year-old Kim Young-gwang, who started against North Korea Monday.
