An international research team has released a complete map of rice genome in the latest issue of the journal Nature.

The International Rice Genome Sequence Project on Wednesday said rice genome consists of 389 million DNA containing 37,544 genes in 12 pairs of chromosomes.

The new genome map is the most complete and accurate in history, identifying 95 percent of data, and is expected to promote insect-resistant breeding of various rice types.

The consortium consists of 14 research institutes from ten countries including South Korea, Japan, China, India, the United States, England, France, and Brazil.
