The government will conduct a comprehensive geological survey on the Dokdo islets.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries announced it would finish a comprehensive analysis of Dokdo’s geological features by June to identify the cause of cracks observed on the islets' surfaces.

Bowing to pressure from experts' and media concerns that the cracks pose a serious problem, the ministry acknowledged the need to review the safety of living quarters for Dokdo's contingent of maritime police and of the tourist trails on the eastern part of the islets, known as Dongdo.

The ministry will carry out a detailed survey on the main facilities on Dongdo to analyze the conditions of the islet's bedrock and foundations.
