The Agency for Defense Development will develop long-range, lightweight anti-submarine torpedos by 2007.

The think tank of the Defense Ministry on Thursday said the Cheongsangeo (Blue Shark) torpedos will have a longer range thanks to a new guidance system and will be deployed to naval destroyers.

Developed with domestic technology last year, the Cheongsangeo can be launched from sea or air.

With the Mugunghwa V communications satellite set to launch next year, the agency will also build an integrated communcations system of the armed forces and develop medium-range surface-to-air missiles.
