A research team has developed a medical spray that restores damaged skin.

The Science and Technology Ministry on Tuesday said a Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences team has invented a spray of artificially cultivated skin cells to reconstruct damaged skin tissue.

Led by Dr. Son Yeon-sook, the team made the spray by extracting stem cells from a patient's skin tissue and culturing them into actively dividing cells.

The new technology has also overcome the limit on the amount of skin removable from a patient for skin transplant.

The team will commercialize the treatment in two or three months through a domestic biotech company.
