North Korea on Sunday stunned Japan, 1-0, in their opening match of the second East Asian Football Championship.

In Daejeon, Kim Young-jun scored the only goal in the 27th minute as the North avenged its recent 2-0 defeat to Japan in a World Cup qualifier.

In June, the North was ordered to play its qualifier against Japan with no fans in Bangkok after crowd violence erupted in the wake of a 2-0 loss to Iran in Pyongyang on March 30th.
