Seoul's Morning Lows Mark Highest Since 1997

Morning lows in Seoul over the past week marked their highest temperature since 1997.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said Tuesday the morning low from last Tuesday to Monday recorded 25.2 degrees Celsius, the highest since the 25.7 degrees recorded in the same period in 1997.

A KMA official said that with the end of the seasonal monsoon period, hot and humid currents are moving westward under the influence of a North Pacific subtropical anticyclone, which has moved upward.

The official added that a resultant heat island effect has led to tropical nights and morning temperatures of over 25 degrees.
