A satellite communication system around the waters of the Korean Peninsula will defend the country's maritime sovereignty over exclusive economic zones and the Northern Limit Line.

The Budget and Planning Ministry on Thursday said the government will launch the project next month for completion by 2008.

The ministry said the system will significantly improve maritime communication by expanding range and removing bad connections and mixed lines.
