The winter resort of Pyeongchang in Gangwon Province will submit a bid Thursday to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The Korean Olympic Committee said the bid will be presented to the International Olympic Committee, which will select the host of the Winter Olympiad next June at the committee’s general session in Guatemala.

Pyeongchang will likely compete against cities in Austria, Sweden, Georgia and France.

In July, 2003, Pyeongchang narrowly lost out to Vancouver in its bid to host the 2010 Winter Games.
