Europe Adopts Terrestrial DMB as Standard

Europe has adopted South Korea's terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting as its official standard.

The European Telecommunications Standards Institution adopted the terrestrial DMB platform that combines multimedia functions with European digital radio technology.

Europe is the first to adopt South Korean technology as an international standard.

South Korea's Telecommunication Technology Association says the adoption will serve as a technical basis for the broad launch of DMB services in Europe.

More European countries are likely to adopt the technology.

Terrestrial DMB enables crystal-clear video, CD-quality audio and data on handheld devices such as cellular phones or in-car devices.
