The government will build a monitoring center on Jeju Island to track satellites launched from the country's main space center under construction.

The Science and Technology Ministry and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute on Wednesday said some 33 billion won will go into the facility, which is scheduled for completion in June next year.

The space center is under construction in Goheung, South Jeolla Province, and slated for completion in 2007.
