The national team will play in the inaugural World Baseball Classic next year.

The Korea Baseball Organization on Monday said it has struck a deal after U.S. Major League Baseball, the tournament's organizer, made a significant concession on profit distribution.

Accordingly, the KBO has sent a delegation to Detroit, where a working-level meeting on the event will open Tuesday.

Slated for March 2006, the tournament aims to draw 16 teams including from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Japan, Taiwan, China, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Netherlands.

After regional preliminary qualifiers, the final eight teams will play in the United States.
