Nation to Build Fusion Reactor by 2040

Abundant and pollution-free fusion energy may power domestic households by the year 2040.

The Science and Technology Ministry on Thursday said it will draft a basic national plan on developing the alternative energy source.

The ministry will secure core technology by joining the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project and building a domestic plant by 2040.

Advanced nations including the United States, Japan and the European Union have heavily funded related research to commercialize the energy by 2035.
