The head of the Asian Football Confederation says Park Ji-sung's transfer to Manchester United will make him the most famous soccer player in Asian history.

AFC General Secretary Peter Velappan on Wednesday was quoted by Reuters as saying Park's move to Old Trafford will have a bigger impact than those by other Asians to leagues in England and Europe.

Velappan was in Singapore attending the International Olympic Committee general assembly that chose London to host the 2012 Summer Games.

Though Asian players have made their mark in Europe, he said Park's move is on a different level given the large amount of attention he will receive.

Velappan said he is delighted over Park "making the grade," adding many Asian kids will look up to him.
