U.S. Home Run Derby Snubs Choi

Choi Hee-seop's invitation to the All-Star Game's Home Run Derby is apparently off.

Major League Baseball's homepage on Tuesday left the Los Angeles Dodger off the roster for the annual event, apparently because he failed to make the All-Star Game in Detroit on July 12th.

Choi's agent Lee Chi-hoon told Yonhap News that he had earlier received an invitation from the MLB players' union by phone, but has heard nothing since.

The snub is unusual given that MLB.com is hoping that the derby will usher in next year's World Baseball Classic by featuring players from different nations.

But his recent sluggish play may also have led to his exclusion. After a hot streak in June, he has not homered in his last 17 games and has just five hits in 41 at-bats.
