Half of Local Coaches Want Bonfrere Fired

More than half of local soccer coaches oppose Jo Bonfrere leading the national team at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The 58-year old Dutch skipper, who took over in June 2004, is facing growing criticism over his leadership capabilities.

In a recent poll of some 300 professional and semi-pro coaches in the country, 54 percent said they do not trust the Dutchman with the World Cup mission, while 46 percent support him.

Sixty percent of those opposed to Bonfere cited poor tactical and strategic skills, while 30 percent pointed to his unreliability and questionable ability overall.

The survey was conducted by a soccer coaches' association last week.
