The state-run Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company will build two nuclear power plants in Busan and Ulsan to raise the nation's total to 22.

The Science and Technology Ministry on Thursday said it approved the company's construction plan after conducting a safety review.

The two pressurized light-water reactors will have a capacity of one million kilowatts each and will be named "Shin-gori" Nos. 1 and 2.

The Busan reactor will see construction finished by 2010 and that in Ulsan by 2011.
