A local research team has succeeded in creating artificial bone from adult stem cells extracted from human bone marrow.

The team, led by Jo In-ho at the National Institute of Health, said its breakthrough will be reported in an international journal next month.

Researchers said the artificial bone was created using Vitamin C and a human hormone, 'dexamethasone.' It added that no side effects were observed, including the tumors that formed during previous bone formation experiments.

The team projected the technology would provide affordable and effective treatment for various bone injuries.
