Gov’t to Begin Development of KOMPSAT-5

The government says it will start developing a fifth multi-purpose satellite next year.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy announced the plan at a meeting with senior officials of the ruling Uri Party on Tuesday.
The ministry plans to spend 60 billion won for the project through 2008, with the first installment of one billion won earmarked for next year.
The funds will be used to design the main body of the KOMSAT-5 and develop or import key components.
