Brazil Eliminates Youth Team, 2-0

Park Chu-young and the national youth soccer team ran out of miracles Saturday as Brazil eliminated the Taegeuk warriors from the world championships, 2-0.

In Emmen, The Netherlands, midfielder Renato in the ninth minute headed in a center cross from teammate Ernane to give Brazil an early lead.

Forward Bobo in the 57th minute made a short pass to fellow wing Rafael Sobis, who then blasted a shot past goalie Cha Ki-seok that hit the right pole and went into the net.

South Korea finished third in the tough Group F with three points from its 2-1 win against Nigeria and none from its losses to Switzerland and Brazil.

The team also lost out on a wildcard berth with a goal differential of minus two, scoring three goals and giving up five in three matches.

Brazil played a calm and controlled game with a ball possession rate of 60 percent and outshooting South Korea at goal 12-7 and on goal 5-1.

The team had ten corner kicks to Brazil's five, but missed on a variety of chances near the goal.

Crowds across South Korea gathered to cheer the youth team in the wake of its astounding 2-1 victory over Nigeria Wednesday, in which Park and teammate Baek Ji-hoon each scored in the game's last four minutes.

In downtown Seoul, some 20,000 fans assembled an hour before the game in a scene reminiscent of that during the 2002 World Cup. Stadiums in Busan and Suwon drew 20,000 to 30,000 fans watching the match on large screens.
