A local research team has achieved a national first in discovering and naming a new disease.

Professor Kim Jong-won of Samsung Medical Center on Tuesday said his team has found a new genetic disease with symptoms of congenital hearing loss, visual impairment, dysbasia and foot anomaly.

Kim has registered the disease's name "CMTX5" with the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
