Over the next three years, the Brazilian government plans to perform stem cell transplantation procedures on twelve-hundred patients who have suffered cardiac arrest.
Local media say the ministries of science and technology and of health have jointly established a task force to that end. Meanwhile, a 41-year-old patient has already reportedly had related surgery.
The government has also reportedly budgeted four million dollars for the first phase of the project, and plans to induce the involvement of thirty-three research institutes.
The media reported that Brazil and South Korea are highly likely to promote cooperation in stem cell research following the recent visit to Brazil by stem cell pioneer Hwang Woo-suk.
