Team Completes Study on Adult Stem Cells

A local research team has successfully completed a large clinical study on vascular incurable diseases using adult stem cells.

The Health and Welfare Ministry on Thursday said the team identified significant improvement in 64 of 74 patients with vascular incurable diseases after applying a treatment of adult stem cells.

The treatment blocked the occurrence of cancer or infection, which are common side effects of stem cell treatment, and also improved functions of stem cell-planted organs.

A ministry official said the study's success has dismissed doubt over the efficiency of stem cell treatments and contributed to advancing their commercial use.
