A local research team has produced the nation’s first cloned goat.

Led by Park Hee-sung of Chinju National University, the team said it planted 153 fertilized eggs in 23 surrogate goats to successfully produce a cloned female goat Tuesday.

The ensuing technology derived from the experiment is expected to prove useful in protecting endangered species such as antelopes.
