A new center affiliated with the International Atomic Energy Agency on Jeju Island will measure environmental isotopes.

The Science and Technology Ministry on Monday said an opening ceremony for the center will open Tuesday.

The center will provide technological expertise on protecting marine resources and preventing environmental pollution in the Asia-Pacific region through radioactive technology.

It will also focus on developing measurement and analysis technologies for protecting water resources using stables isotopes, and educate and train experts on such technology.

With the center's establishment on Jeju Island, domestic technology is expected to greatly contribute to Asia's efforts to prevent environmental pollution.
