North Korea on Friday needs a win in its World Cup qualifier with Iran to stay alive.

The North held two weeks of training camp in Kunming, China, from May 14th and beat the Chinese pro team Hunan Xiangjun 4-2 on May 22nd.

Iran won the first meeting between the two teams in Pyongyang, 2-0, in a game marred by fan violence after the final whistle.

FIFA, soccer's world governing body, moved the North's June 8th match against Japan to Thailand as punishment.

The North is trying to qualify for its first World Cup since its shocking quarterfinals advance in 1966.

Friday's match also falls on the anniversary of the 1989 death of Iranian revolutionary Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
