Huh Hyung-tack will serve a second three-year term as president of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission-Subcommission for the Western Pacific.
The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry on Wednesday said Huh of the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute was reelected at the sixth general meeting of the IOC-WESTPAC in Vietnam.
The IOC is dedicated to the coordination of marine activities and research and study of oceanic science in the Western Pacific.
The commission has 20 members including South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, France, Britain and Russia.
