A Seoul National Univesity professor says local stem cell researchers should first establish a related network of domestic scientists before seeking cooperation with overseas researchers.

In an interview with Yonhap News on Thursday, Ahn Gyu-ri, who works with cloning expert Hwang Woo-suk, said he expects such a network wil take shape around this fall.

He also expressed his willingness to allow adult stem cell researchers to participate on Hwang's project team if they want to boost benefits for the public.

The SNU professor said he has been bombarded with requests from overseas researchers for visiting the team, adding that it would take some time to invite them, as the team is unprepared to provide for their lodging and expenses.

However, he stressed that cooperation with prominent foreign biotechnoloy experts is essential for advancing the nation's science.
